“The ability to
have the hands on experience and mentoring helped to reinforce
the concepts taught in the CRI course, and ensured I was
applying them appropriately. Seeing the modalities used
in practice and adjusted for the individual cases was very
insightful. The other huge benefit was the opportunity
to see the diagnostic process from start to finish with
a variety of cases."
–Stephanie Finley,
DVM, CCRT,
Port Deposit, MD
“I am very much a 'hands
on' learner. The information I gleaned from
this internship, as well as observing the business
and logistic side of a rehab practice cannot
be learned from writing up a case report. It
might be more expensive, as most of us must take a week off
from our practices/job and pay for travel, hotel, food,
etc, but it is worth every minute and penny
spent. Thank you for continuing to re-evaluate
and improve the CRI course. (It’s a darn
awesome course already!)"

DVM,

We recognize that "real life" experience
is an integral part of the training of the best
practitioners that simply can't be duplicated in
the classroom. This is why we created the CRI Internship
Program — the final step for CCRT candidates
who have taken the three courses required for
certification and successfully completed all exams.
We
recommend CCRT students do an internship whenever
possible. Internships give students the
opportunity for hands-on learning under the supervision
of a veterinarian or physical therapist trained
in canine rehabilitation.
Near the end of their coursework,
CCRT students select a clinical mentor from a list
of CRI-approved sites located across the United
States and Canada. A 40-hour internship is required,
and it can be performed in a single week or over
the course of several. The cost of doing an internship
ranges from $100-$125 per day, which is paid by
the student directly to the sponsoring practice.
Interns work closely with their
mentors, getting exposure to all aspects of the
rehabilitation process including day-to-day practice
management. Interns are
graded on a pass-fail basis.
An internship is recommended for all CCRT students,
but In the case of hardship a comprehensive exam
may be an option.
We want
students to experience the thought
processing behind the application of rehabilitation,
not just the application itself. For this reason,
technician-managed rehab practices will not be
qualified as CRI internship sites.
ONLY CCRT candidates and
clinical mentors can access additional information, forms and a list of approved
sites. Click on the link below and enter your username and password. (Contact
us if you have forgotten either one.)
