ABOUT THE STAFF

Dr. Janet Van DykeJanet B. Van Dyke, DVM - A 1981 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Van Dyke completed her internship and surgical residency at The Animal Medical Center in New York City in 1984.  She then established surgical  programs at busy referral centers throughout the New York City metropolitan area. In 1988, she transferred to Chicago where she established Veterinary Consultants. This practice offered orthopedic, sports medicine and internal medicine consultation services to veterinary practices throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. By 1993, the practice had enlarged its service area to include southern Michigan.  Dr. Van Dyke's focus has remained on orthopedics and sports-related injuries, with an emphasis on post-surgical rehabilitation techniques. This focus inspired her to form an educational group, offering many years of practical experience in canine rehabilitation to Veterinarians, Physical Therapists, Veterinary Technicians and Physical Therapist Assistants.

Dr. Chris ZinkChristine Zink, DVM, Ph.D., Dip. ACVP received her DVM and Ph.D. degrees from the Ontario Veterinary College. She is a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where she does AIDS research and teaches pathology. She also has a consultation practice in Canine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is the author of several books on canine health including Peak Performance: Coaching the Canine Athlete. Dr. Zink lectures nationally and internationally on the topic of canine sports medicine, and writes regularly for dog magazines.


Dr. Laurie Edge-Hughes
Laurie Edge-Hughes, BScPT, M.An.St.(Animal Physio), CAFCI, CCRT
- Laurie Edge-Hughes is a Canadian trained physiotherapist. She obtained her BSc.PT from the University of Alberta in 1993 and has since focused her post graduate training on orthopadics, osteopathy, acupuncture and animal physiotherapy. Laurie has the honor of having taught the first canine physiotherapy/physical therapy courses in Canada (1999), the USA (1999) and Australia (2001). Currently, she is the chair of the Canadian Horse and Animal Physical Rehabilitation Association (CHAP). She continues to teach canine physiotherapy and rehabilitation courses for CHAP, as well as for the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in the USA and is a clinical tutor for the Masters of Animal Studies (Animal Physiotherapy) program at the University of Queensland, Australia and is a guest lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College in England. Laurie has written several articles for various canine magazines, animal rehabilitation publications and veterinary publications as well as contributing chapters on canine physiotherapy for Ultimate Dog Care (Ringpress Books 2001) and Veterinary Physiotherapy (Blackwell 2006). She practices out of the Canine Fitness Centre Ltd in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (www.caninefitness.com) and can be reached at . When not entrenched in work, she enjoys spending family time with her very patient husband, two boys and three dogs.

Dr. Laurie McCauleyLaurie McCauley, DVM, CCRT, Certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and American Veterinary Chiropractic Association - Dr. Laurie McCauley is a 1992 graduate of Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She was in general private practice for six years. In 1998 she began to study and do research in the field of veterinary rehabilitation. She then opened TOPS Veterinary Rehabilitation, a referral-only, rehabilitation-only veterinary facility. In 1999 she received her certification by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) in veterinary acupuncture and in 2000 she earned her certification in Veterinary Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). Dr. McCauley helped design the first underwater treadmill for dogs and continues to work with companies on innovative rehabilitation equipment. She is a contributing author in Canine Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy as well as the upcoming Clinical Textbook for Veterinary Technicians. She lectures nationally and internationally on the topic of canine rehabilitation and is now on faculty at the Animal Rehabilitation Institute's Canine Rehabilitation Certification program.

Amie LamoreauxAmie Hesbach, MSPT, CCRP, CCRT - Amie is a 1995 magna cum laude graduate of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and a 1997 graduate of Medical College of Virginia. In addition to continuing education in Neuromuscular Developmental Treatment, and Kinesiotaping, Amie has completed a post-graduate residency in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation at the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center of Vallejo, California.

Maintaining practice in both human and small animal rehabilitation, she is the owner of For Paws Rehabilitation, LLC, the sole provider of small animal rehabilitation services for Mid-Atlantic Animal Specialty Hospital of Huntingtown, MD and Dogs and Cats Veterinary Referral Center of Bowie, MD. Amie is a Certified Clinical Instructor and has supervised clinical externships for both physical therapy and veterinary students. Amie has lectured both on human and canine rehabilitation in the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan.

H. Steven Steinberg, DVM, DACVIMH. Steven Steinberg, DVM, DACVIM - Dr. Steinberg is a 1973 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He did his internship at the Henry Bergh animal hospital in New York City and his residency at the University of Pennsylvania and stayed on as an instructor there. In 1977, Steve opened one of the first referral-only specialty hospitals in the United States. This facility endearingly known as "The Barn" became one of the largest veterinary specialty hospitals anywhere. Steve completed his neurology board certification with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1980.

Steve is internationally recognized for his work on small animal peripheral nerve disease and he is a pioneer in the treatment of small animal brain tumors. Steve has traveled to Germany and Hawaii to remove brain tumors from companion animals and continues to consult internationally.

MariaMaria Caiozzo, CCRT - A veterinary technician, Maria completed her canine rehabilitation certification training at the Canine Rehabilitation Institute, and accepted a position there as a teaching assistant. She continues to help to coordinate the training programs, and now assists Dr. Van Dyke and MeMe Schmitz with the rehabilitation of canine patients at Canine Rehabilitation of the Palm Beaches. In addition, Maria is the founder of 'Pro-Cones,' a proprioception re-education system for canine rehabilitation practices.




Jason CanappJason Canapp - Founder and CEO of The SieBo Group, LLC, a business advisory firm where he specializes in venture planning, public affairs, and customer experience management. His firm works with a diverse client base, including veterinarians planning to add physical rehabilitation services to their practice. In addition to his consulting experience, Mr. Canapp has worked as a policy advisor and strategic planning coordinator in the Maryland Governor's Office and previously served as a Special Assistant to U.S. Senator Paul Sarbanes. Mr. Canapp is active in his community and sits on the board of several not-for-profit organizations in Baltimore City.
     Mr. Canapp received his MBA from Loyola College in Maryland, studied law at the University of California, Hastings and holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Judy Coates, M.Ed, MSPT, CCRT - Judy has practiced physical therapy since graduating from Boston University's Sargent College in 1986. She specializes in orthopedic and sports physical therapy with particular interests in manual therapy and biomechanics. She had the opportunity to conduct research at the National Insitute of Health, investigating the biomechanics of gait. For several years she taught in the Physical Therapy program at Sargent College and treated patients at the BU Orthopedic and Sports Rehabilitation Clinic. Currently Judy lives in New Hampshire where she splits her practice between small animals and humans. She joined the CRI faculty in 2006 and teaches the Introductory and Assistant's Modules.
