Internal Medicine & Pain Management for the Advanced Rehabilitation Therapist

Join us in Alaska for an in-depth review of internal medicine and pain management for your most complex cases, including hands-on experience with Alaskan Husky sled dogs! Attendees also will have the opportunity to drive their own sled dog team in the vast wilderness of this area with stunning views of Denali.

Course Description

CRI has partnered with 4-time Iditarod Champion Martin Buser's Happy Trails Kennels and the Alaska Dog Mushing School to offer the ultimate continuing education adventure.

This 4-day program, taught by Drs. Sarah Love and Lindsey Fry consists of 18 hours of CE covering Internal Medicine and Pain management topics to help you manage your most complex rehabilitation cases. Your day will be divided into class (lectures and hands-on labs) and learning to drive your own sled dog team!

Prerequisites:

This course is open to licensed veterinarians, physical therapists, and licensed veterinary technicians/nurses who are certified in canine rehabilitation by Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CCRT, CCRVN, CCRA), VAHL (CCRP), Healing Oasis (VMRT), Chi Institute (CCRV), CuraCore (CRPM), or Northeast Seminars (CCAT) and veterinarians that are currently in the ACVSMR Residency program or who have earned their DACVSMR and are practicing canine rehabilitation. Veterinary assistants certified in rehabilitation but do not have formal credentials must submit a current Letter of Recommendation from their supervising veterinarian physical therapist.

Note: The last day of class ends early to allow students the opportunity to return home that evening. Students who do not attend a full day of class will not receive full CE credit hours for that day. Do not make airline reservations that require you to depart class before 12:00 P.M.

Topics Covered:

A wide variety of internal medicine conditions affecting your rehabilitation patients, including:

  • Endocrine disorders
  • Metabolic disease
  • Cardiovascular condition
  • Gastrointestinal conditions
  • Myopathies

Additionally, pain management topics to be discussed include:

  • What's new in pain interventions for the rehabilitation patient
  • How the myofascial system affects pain
  • How to assess the myofascial system
  • Ketamine for pain management

The course will be a combination of lectures and hands-on learning with practical tools you can take back to your practice to elevate the care given to your patients. Both lecturers will include the feline perspective as well.

Course dates:

The class will be held: February 3-6, 2024

If you choose an all-day sled experience, you may stay an additional 1-2 days.

Course Fee: Choose either:

  • $1,690 for the 4-day course (see details below), OR
  • $2,139 for the 4-day course plus $449 for the full day of dog mushing on Day 5 or 6 (limited to 12 people each day)

The $1,690 course fee includes:

  • 18 hours of CE
  • Lunch and snacks during class times
  • Introduction to dog mushing on Day 2
  • ½ day of dog mushing on Day 3 (for half of the class)
  • ½ day of dog mushing on Day 4 (for the other half of the course)

The full day of dog mushing (on Day 5 or 6) is limited to 12 students each day and has an additional cost of $449. Please select the $ 2,139 course fee to register for the full day of dog mushing.

We will assign you to a group and let you know once assignments have been made.

Day 1: February 3: Class 10 A.M.-5 P.M.

Day 2: February 4: Class 8 A.M.-12 P.M., Classic Sled Groups A & B

Day 3: February 5: Class 8 A.M.-12 P.M., Half-day sled Group A

Day 4: February 6: Class 8 A.M.-12 P.M., Half-day sled Group B

Day 5: February 7: Full-day sled for group A (additional fee of $449)

Day 6: February 8: Full-day sled for group B (additional fee of $449)
