Course Description

This two (2) course will focus on how ultrasound can make musculoskeletal diagnoses more precisely, accurately, and efficiently and how findings can be applied clinically. This will enable a more targeted treatment approach to patients suffering from soft tissue injuries such as Achilles tendinopathy, Flexor Carpi Ulnaris injury, and Shoulder tendinopathy. The course will include live dog labs, lectures, and hands-on experience with ultrasound.

Course Curriculum:

This course provides foundational knowledge and hands-on training in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound for canine rehabilitation:

  • Introduction to Ultrasound (provided in recorded lectures prior to class start date)
    Covering ultrasound physics, echogenicity, artifacts, and image formation. You will also learn the basics of image optimization and probe positioning. Explore tools to enhance image clarity and diagnostic accuracy.
  • Muscular Structure Anatomy Videos (provided in recorded lectures prior to class start date)
    Review the locations of the origin and insertion points of key structures in the shoulder, flexor carpi ulnaris, and calcaneal tendon.
  • Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound:
    Learn the basics of ultrasound while performing ultrasound evaluations of the shoulder, common calcaneal tendon, and flexor carpi ulnaris. and pelvic limb injuries. Discuss thoracic and pelvic limb injuries.
  • Ultrasound-Guided Treatment
    Learn ultrasound-guided treatment techniques and specific MSK U/S protocols when documenting findings

Course Information:

Online Videos: Approximately 40 minutes online via Thinkific (Student will gain access 60 days before course)

In-Person: 2 days at CRI in Springfield, MO

In-Person Daily Hours:

  • Day 1: 8:00am-6:00pm Central Time, USA
  • Day 2: 8:00am-3:00pm Central Time, USA
  • The last day of class ends early to allow students the opportunity to return home that evening. Do not make airline reservations that require you to depart class before 3:00 P.M.

RACE Approved: 15 credit hours by the AAVSB

Please Note: We have added an optional pre-course lab on May 13th from 4-6 pm CST at CRI Headquarters if you wish to have some extra time learning how to hold the ultrasound probes, scanning techniques, and optimizing images. There will be no shuttle service for this lab, however, Uber/Lyft options are available. There is no additional fee or CE credit for this portion of the course.
