Certified Animal Orthotic & Prosthetic Professional (CAOPP) Certification

The CAOPP program is designed for rehabilitation professionals and veterinarians who want to deepen their expertise in selecting cases, prescribing, fitting, and treating veterinary patients with assistive devices to enhance functional mobility.

Certification is available to licensed veterinarians, rehabilitation-certified physical therapists and rehabilitation-certified occupational therapists.

We recognize that optimal patient care relies on the collaboration of the entire rehabilitation team. Rehabilitation-certified veterinary technicians and assistants may take these courses for continuing education purposes. No matter your licensure, DMV, PT, OT, technician or assistant, these courses will set you up for success when working with orthotic or prosthetic devices.

About CAOPP Certification Modules

The three modules that make up the CAOPP certification are thoracic limb orthotic devices, pelvic limb orthotic devices, and prosthetic devices. Each module consists of a 3-day in-person course working through thoracic and pelvic limb conditions amenable to orthotic or prosthetic devices.

Participants will first learn the biomechanics of V-OP. Next, we will cover patient selection, device prescription and planning, design critique, fitting, and, importantly, troubleshooting and adjusting basic devices for each module. Ample time will be provided for hands-on labs to hone device adjustment skills. We will also cover the materials, tools, and facilities needed to start a basic V-OP practice.
